　　Theme: Favourite things around us

　　Topic: Students’ pet/our friends-pets

　　Language focus: ê Asking ‘Wh-’ questions to find out various kinds of specific information about an animal

　　e.g. What colour is it?

　　ê Asking ‘yes/no’ questions to find out a person’s possessions

　　e.g. Have you got a pet?

　　Learning target: Learners ask about and describe personal possessions by doing a survey in groups about who has a pet and what the pet is like.

　　Materials: Multi-media, Word cards, pictures of animals, a photo of teachers’ pet, students’ books, tape

　　Teaching Procedures:

　　Pre-task preparations:

　　1. Say a rhyme

　　T: What animal can you hear in the rhyme?

　　Where is the little brown dog?

　　2. Talk about Doggie’s file (its name, colour, favourite things…)

　　While-task procedures:

　　1. Elicit: pet

　　2. Judge what is a pet.

　　(Show some pictures of different animals, students judge)

　　3. Describe the characters of a pet.

　　T: Can you tell something about a pet?

　　4. Talk about students’ pets.

　　T: Have you got a pet?

　　What is it?

　　What colour is it?

　　What’s its name?

　　5. Listening material

　　(listen to the tape and finish the chart)

　　6. Students imitate the dialogue with deskmate.

　　7. What pets do you know?

　　(Show some pictures of different pets)

　　8. A guessing game: What is teacher’s pet?

　　Post-task activities:

　　1. Reading material

　　(Read and guess what pet is it.)

　　2. Play a game: Write something about your pet and let your friends guess.

　　1) For less able students: Main description about pet’s characters.

　　2) For more able students: Imitate reading material and write a short article about a pet.
